Senior Care Resources staff provides Medicaid application management and expertise in Florida. Senior Care Resources (SCR) does not provide legal advice. You will see references to legal matters but those matters are handled separately by the law firm that founded us and its founding attorney, Carl Zacharia. For the past 19 years, SCR has been helping families navigate the complex process of applying for long-term-care Medicaid. Whether your loved one has just entered a nursing facility or you are planning ahead, we provide the expertise and hands-on support to guide you through every step — from the initial screening to a final determination. Below is an overview of the services we offer.
Most people have never had to apply for Medicaid before. The process can be daunting. There are several forms that must be completed, copies of back up documentation such as five years of bank and financial accounts statements, income statements, life insurance, citizenship cards and more that are all part of the application.
You may have heard the stories about people losing their homes, their life savings, getting sued by nursing homes, and the like. While Senior Care Resources was founded by elder law attorneys, the case managers are not attorneys and do not give specific legal advice. However, they have been trained to understand these rules and identify when and where there might be a problem or an opportunity and inform the client to seek legal advice from an elder law attorney. The problems would be issues that might cause a period of ineligibility. There are opportunities as well. In some cases, assets, including the family home, might be protected and exempt from the five year lookback.
The cost of the services provided by Senior Care Resources comes completely from spenddown. This cost is normally not an additional cost to you. Many, if not most Medicaid applications have a spenddown. Spenddown is the requirement that an applicant have only a limited amount of funds before being eligible for Medicaid. The charge is $3,500. This is the equivalent of about nine (9) days of nursing home care.
So, instead of paying the nursing home and going through the Medicaid application alone, you may get Medicaid benefits nine (9) days sooner and have an experienced person oversee and manage your entire application. An appropriate analogy is that you can rent a car and try driving through the jungle on your own, or you can hire an experienced guide to show you the way and drive you there.
Senior Care Resources manages the Medicaid application from start to finish — but some situations call for an attorney. That is where our affiliation with Zacharia Frey PLLC, a well-known elder law firm in Florida, makes the difference. When a case has legal needs, Zacharia Frey is there to handle everything legal that touches long-term care and Medicaid, including:
Qualified Income Trusts (QITs)
Powers of attorney
Asset protection
Overcoming legal barriers to eligibility
and so forth
This is the real value of the relationship: two teams working hand in hand rather than a family left to piece it together alone. Senior Care Resources drives the application while Zacharia Frey clears the legal obstacles the moment they appear — no waiting on a referral to an outside attorney who has never seen the file. Everyone at the table wins. The family protects what can legally be protected, the facility gains a resident whose payment source is secured, and Medicaid eligibility is established as quickly as the rules allow.
Senior Care Resources is also a software development company. The reason is simple. After several thousand applications, you learn exactly where families lose money, where facilities lose revenue, and where the process breaks. We built software to fix those points of failure rather than continuing to work around them.
Medicaid In‑a‑Minute is an attorney-designed screening tool for families. In about fifteen minutes, it analyzes a household's financial picture and returns a plain-English report identifying eligibility problems, transfer penalty exposure, and legitimate opportunities to protect assets. It answers the question families most need answered before they file: where do we actually stand? Most Medicaid denials trace back to problems that were visible in the file from day one. Medicaid In-a-Minute makes them visible to the family first. Visit MedicaidInAMinute.com.
Medicaid Sentry is built for the other side of the desk. It is a platform for nursing home business offices managing the full Medicaid eligibility lifecycle, from admission through approval through redetermination. Sentry ingests bank data, applies the countability rules, and produces the reports an administrator actually needs: asset compliance status, income cap and QIT funding monitoring, patient responsibility worksheets, transfer and gift screening, deposit alerts, and redetermination packages. Pending applications are a facility’s single largest source of uncollected revenue. Sentry exists to shrink that number. Visit MedicaidSentry.com.
MyLifeFolio addresses a different problem. When a crisis hits, families discover they cannot find the will, the deed, the insurance policy, or the account numbers. MyLifeFolio is a secure life documentation platform where a person can organize the documents, accounts, contacts, and wishes their family will need, in one place, before anyone needs them. Visit MyLifeFolio.com.
MyLifeMemoir grew out of that work. It is a guided voice interview that does not feel like a form or a questionnaire. It feels like sitting across from a real biographer who listens, follows up, and draws the story out chapter by chapter. What comes back is not a transcript. It is a finished memoir in the person’s own voice, and it can be published as a digital book or printed as a physical one from the site. Along the way you can build out a family tree, and family members can be invited in to add their own memories, corrections, and comments, so the book becomes something the whole family made rather than something one person wrote alone. Financial documents are what a family needs. The story is what they want. MyLifeMemoir captures it while there is still time to capture it. Visit MyLifeMemoir.com.
